Blades Of Glory

Mr Pinky is a huge fan of the hilarious Will Ferrell.

In this recent release (2007) Mr Ferrell plays professional skater and lothario Chazz Michael Michaels. When he ties for gold at the 2003 World WinterSport Games with blonde skating prodigy Jimmy MacElroy, all hell breaks loose between the two competitive sportsmen and a fight ensues. They are consequently banned from ever skating again. Yet there's a loophole: there's nothing to stop them skating as a duo. Hence the two patch up their differences and hit the ice again. In the mean time an evil, ambitious brother/sister skating team, Stranz and Fairchild van Waldenberg, try to undo their ambitions with a series of dirty tricks.

To up the ante and win Chazz and Jimmy revive an old, yet highly dangerous dance move called the Iron Lotus. If not executed properly, it results in decapitation (gruesome footage is shown of a skating competition in North Korea where the trick failed.)

Some of the 'dance' sequences in this film have to be seen to be believed, and many of the gags had Mr Pinky in fits of laughter. The scenes at Chazz's sex addicts class were hilarious, as he describes his sexual experiences and turns on most of the class as he does so.

Oh, and did I forget to mention the dazzling costumes. Boy oh boy! In the early sequences Jimmy MacElroy (Jon Heder) dons a swishy lycra peacock jumpsuit with feather and bird motifs woven into the costume. In counter point to Jimmy's flight-of-fancy outfits, Chazz goes for the more rock starrish / rock god / lothario look.

Get your skates on and head on down to your movie library and see this laugh a minute gem of a movie. I totally loved it.
